Congress Slams PM Modi’s Silence After Trump’s Claim on India-Pakistan Conflict
After U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated — for the 25th time, as per Congress estimates — that he was responsible for halting the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, senior Congress leaders launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his continued silence on the matter.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, questioned the Prime Minister’s inaction, stating there was “something fishy” about Mr. Modi’s refusal to respond to Mr. Trump’s repeated assertions. “Why hasn’t the Prime Minister said a single word? This kind of silence raises serious questions,” Mr. Gandhi said.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized Mr. Modi, saying, “The Prime Minister shows weakness by remaining silent when such serious claims are being made about India’s sovereignty and its security posture.”
On Tuesday, President Trump once again claimed that he had intervened to stop the India-Pakistan conflict — which, he alleged, had the potential to escalate into a nuclear war. He further stated that five aircraft had been shot down during the hostilities.
Congress leaders demanded an official clarification from the Prime Minister, asserting that the government cannot afford to stay mute when a foreign leader repeatedly makes such dramatic statements about India’s national security.
